This part of Northern Virginia is my neighborhood.  Arlington and Alexandria are filled with wonderful neighborhoods like Fairlington and Shirlington, Park Fairfax, Del Ray and Rosemont, Rosslyn,  Clarendon and Aurora Hills.  And there are so many great homes and condos to chose from.  They all have their own flavor and appeal.  Fairlington is within walking distance of the sidewalk cafes of Shirlington, and there are two dog parks nearby, as well as a bicycle/jogging trail.  Del Ray has a smalltown feel with its older homes and wide porches.  Clarendon/Rosslyn has urban appeal, but still offers a traditional neighborhood with lots of parks, lovely manicured lawns and older, grand homes tucked away behind the main streets of Wilson and Clarendon.

Fairlington is actually several communities, located just off 395 and King Street, up the hill from Shirlington Village.  Communities in Fairlington are Fairlington Village, Fairlington Mews, Fairlington Commons, Fairlington Arbor, Fairlington Meadows, Fairlington Glen and Fairlington Green.  Fairlington was constructed between 1940 and 1945, although it was updated and turned into condos in the 1970's.  Still Fairlington maintains its original charm with brick townhomes, one and two bedroom condominiums - some with lofts.  All Fairlington communities boast beautiful green lawns, tennis courts and swimming pools.  Fairlington, as well as the rest of Arlington and Alexandria Virginia, is a great place to live!

 

Delray is just down the street off Braddock Road near the Braddock metro.  Rosemont is close by, near the King Street metro.  Both neighborhoods are easily accessible to 395 and walking distance to great restaurants on Mt. Vernon and King Street.  Delray is like a small town inside urban Alexandria with distinctive, well-built homes, bungalows, colonials, and Victorians. 

 

If you prefer hustle and bustle, check out North Arlington and the Clarendon/Courthouse area. Downtown Arlington has four metros to Washington, DC and Maryland.  This is where you'll find Arlington's skyscrapers (though not much taller than 20 stories).  Lots of restaurants, upscale shopping and people-watching.
